This passage of Scripture opens our hearts to the meaning of Eucharist, which reunites us with Jesus so that we may recognize and know Him in this meal.
Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian life.” We, too, are disciples on the road to Emmaus. The focus of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish’s First Eucharist process is not only for first Eucharist but more importantly for beginning an ongoing relationship with Jesus through the sacrament.
It is designed to be a process not only about cognitive learning but about a period of spiritual preparation.
Sacramental Preparation for First Eucharist, and First Reconciliation, are done through parent/child catechesis, founded on the principles set forth by the Church…”The family is, the essential and first place where catechesis occurs.” (The
General Directory of Catechesis #178) and “Parents are the primary educators of the faith…“ (
CCC).
We design all of our catechetical programs with these principles in mind, allowing parents to take an active role in their child’s faith formation.
